ON THE VERGE
(A surreal dark comedy/drama series)
Created by Penny Eizenga and Meeshelle Neal
Produced by Heidi Lasi
A mid-life, right-wing TV news host finds herself suspended in a surreal alternate dimension between living and dying when botched plastic surgery leaves her in a coma, forcing her to reconcile past choices and embrace a renewed take on life... or die trying.
PENNY EIZENGA (Creator, writer): As a former registered nurse, I’ve witnessed death and the sense of someone leaving their body behind. A close friend’s recounting of his “near-death” experience involved vivid images and personalities he met while immersed in the “spiritual” dimension outside his physical body. One could blame these visions on mind-altering medications, the stress of illness, dreams or the jarring routines of hospital life. But it’s tough to refute the impact of personal experience. The current state of media distrust and elements of “fake news” spurred my interest in creating an ultra-conservative mouthpiece at the center of the story.
MEESHELLE NEAL (Co-Creator, Co-Writer): I was drawn to this story for the surreal way of exploring how our past influences our present (and future). The subject of what happens between life and death has been a long-standing passion of mine. As a writer my current work explores dark themes through other worldliness. I have a book series that looks at the realm between life and death in a young-adult, fantasy setting. What’s great about On the Verge is how it adds the tongue-in-cheek dark comedy elements.
HEIDI LASI (Producer): What attracted me to the story is that it’s grounded in beliefs matching my own personal philosophies, namely, that the universe we live in and the bodies we inhabit are wild and fantastical things and we are always learning and understanding more about them. I’m mystified and intrigued by life, death, and life after death - and the stories of those who have come back to life. I live with hope and wonder and I believe audiences are as intrigued as I am and want/need/desire to see Grace’s - and Penny’s - stories. CONTACT: email@example.com

Olivia is a 13 year-old misfit who battles her personified anxiety, which is expressed as a genderfluid physical being she aptly names Hag. Her continual striving to overcome this externalized fear eventually prompts reluctant classmates to confront their own angst.
Olivia’s Hag re-imagines the "coming-of-age" story, to a fresh, angsty take on a coming-of-awareness.
